International Coastal Cleanup 2013 in JAPAN

In the 2013 Cleanup Campaign, a total of 34,758 people participated from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south, and 87 tons of litter was collected from 192 km of coasts, riverbanks, lakeshores, and underwater. We express our gratitude to all of the participants.

"Marine Litter News" from East Asia Civil Forum on Marine Litter

The East Asia Civil Forum on Marine Litter was established in October 2009 at the Marine Litter Summit in Shimonoseki, Japan. The Forum is composed of NGOs from Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan. We welcome more participation form other NGOs from east countries. Local Research Report on Japan’s Earthquake and Tsunami Driftage in the State of Alaska

Regarding the issue of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami debris washing up on the western coastal areas of the United States, the objective of this research is to strengthen collaborative ties between Japan and the U.S. and explore the possibilities for working collaboratively on handling this issue. Since the amount of debris found in the state of Alaska is greater than in other states, five researchers will be dispatched to Alaska for the research. This research has been funded by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation and JEAN’s organizational funds. (26/8/2013)
